How NFL Draft First Round Hopeful Took The Words Right Out Of My Mind

‘Twas The Day Before, The Day Before the NFL Draft, just the dog and I were home.

As we have all said many times in our lives and will probably say again, “Wow, what a week it has been!”  And, it was only Tuesday!  The Day Before, The Day Before, NFL Draft Day.

As much as I have a passion for writing, I hold the same passion as an NFL lover and a Fantasy Football Fanatic!  However, other than the Fantasy Football articles I write throughout the season.  Never did I think the two might blend together as one.

This particular day, not only was I working through a little Writer’s Block, the week had already brought a few challenges.  My get up and go just was not there.  Taking some time away from the laptop, I turned on the t.v. and tuned in to the NFL Channel to hear a little about the upcoming Draft Day.

I began watching an interview with a young man from Texas A & M College.  Myles Garrett, from Texas A & M, was being interviewed.  Garrett is a Defensive End, projected as a Round One pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.  Not being one of the dedicated fans of Texas A & M College, I basically knew nothing about the young player.

As the piece continued and the reporter asked more questions, I gained a little more knowledge.  The knowledge I gained did not just pertain to the awesome game of football and his 2017 Draft potential.

No, what grabbed and held my attention for the rest of the story, was on a much different topic.

The Creative Mind comes in all shapes and sizes.

As the interview continued, the following facts and my reactions came about:

Fact:  Myles Garrett professed his love for dinosaurs and the desire he has to discover a fossil, stemming from childhood.  He stated, as a child, he would dig large holes in his backyard in hopes one day he would find one.

My Reaction:  “Awe, that really is kind of cute.”

Fact:  Myles Garrett is also very much into “Love Songs”.  Not just Love Songs, but Love Songs from my era.  Songs from artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Journey or even more “Old School” artists like The Temptations and The Isley Brothers.

My Reaction:  Wow!  What young lady wouldn’t love that.  A hot young man, probable First Round NFL Draft #1 Pick and he loves his Love Songs!

Fact:  He WRITES!  He doesn’t just write, he is a Writer with a passion.  He is partial to writing poetry.  When the reporter questioned  why writing, he explained.  Writing is a way to relieve stress, get feelings out.  If he is stressed or has something on his mind, writing is an outlet.  Writing is an avenue to express whatever he is thinking.  He also explained when he writes, whatever thoughts or feelings he has at the time flows out into words on the paper.

My Reaction:  EXACTLY!  I have tried to verbally explain exactly what drives the passion to write within me.  I could not have said it better than he did.

Why I do it the way I do.

Wednesday rolled around and the previous days interview with Myles Garrett kept coming to my mind.  As the day continued, I felt there was an article here somewhere. For me, it might be a feeling I’m feeling, a structure I pass, a phrase or something I hear during the day or in this case an interview or report on TV.

It just so happens, after getting ready for the day, I walked into the family room and what did I see again?  That’s right. The same interview with Myles Garrett at the same exact point he was discussing why he writes.

So, yes, there is an articles.

An article that explains, all writers have their own reasons as to why they write, what they write and how they write.  Some writers have one topic or “niche”.  One targeted audience they cater too.  Some writers remain true to one style such as poetry, politics, sports, homemaking or “How To” articles.

Some writers (such as myself) are somewhat all over the board.

I enjoy many aspects of life and writing about the experience.  Well into adulthood, I had an “Ah-Ha” moments teaching me to view my past in a different light.  Writing about life’s journeys and placing a positive learning experience, fulfills me in a special way.  There is a chance someone just might read a piece to help them as my new way of thinking helped me.

I also LOVE, LOVE football (NFL & Fantasy Football).  I enjoy writing about the sport and teaming up with my oldest son for a Fantasy Football Series throughout the season.  That would be why NFL Live was on the TV.  NFL Channel is in our daily lineup.

Also, having been challenged when I first began writing, to step out of my creative , I find a desire to try new topics.  I find it enjoyable to do so while putting my own personal “spin” on the issue at hand.

Closing Facts & Reactions

Fact:   Myles Garret not only was drafted in Round One of the NFL 2017 Draft, he was the #1 in Round One!  Drafted by the Cleveland Browns.

My Reaction:  CONGRATULATIONS!  If I was never a hard core fan before, I am now.  The football fever has now settled in and I will be watching for you.  Who knows, maybe I will see in one of my own Fantasy Football Drafts!

Fact:  Life has it’s ups and downs causing no energy for me to roll up to my laptop and write.  There is a reason I saw the interview I did two days in a row.  Hearing the reason this young man writes.  I learned something about myself because of it.

My Reaction:  The Lord works in mysterious ways!  I now know, when I get down on life a bit, sit down and write.  If need be, take a little time.  The words will come.  When necessary re-read my article “My morning Stroll To Therapy”.

Fact:  God give everyone a Gift.  Some find it early in life, some find it later.  Many have several.  Motherhood is without a doubt one of

the Gifts from God.  Writing wasn’t discovered until later in life.  I’ve also discovered each writer has their own drive, their own reasons and their own way.

My Reaction:  I was given very valuable advice almost a year ago when I discovered this gift.  Whatever you do “Never let anyone guide your pen.  Write to be true to your passion.”
